FOUR DIRECTIONS PROBLEM GAMBLING AND HEALTH AWARENESS CONFERENCE PROGRAM ACCREDITED BY THE INDIGENOUS CERTIFICATION BOARD OF CANADA

Vancouver, BC (July 09, 2015) – The Indigenous Certification Board of Canada (ICBOC) is pleased to announce the accreditation of the training program offered by the FOUR DIRECTIONS Problem Gambling and Health Awareness Conference Program “Honouring Our Past, Protecting our Future Through Holistic Health, Wellness and Recovery Support”.

The Four Directions Conference will take place from September 21 to 24, at the Westin Wall Centre, Vancouver Airport, 3099 Corvette Way, Richmond, BC. It will bring together representatives from across the Nations from the United States and Canada, Aboriginal organizations, government programs, treatment centres, and health organizations to share their knowledge, skills and wisdom. The focus of the conference is on maintaining balance through health, wellness and recovery support.

The ICBOC-accredited conference program will offer educational, counselling and traditional workshops around the topic of gambling as well as training on a variety of other addictions and mental wellness topics particularly relevant for those working in their communities as Drug and Alcohol counsellors, mental wellness counsellors, nurses, Band leadership, Aboriginal Friendship Centres.

All the training offered in the pre-conference and main conference programs have been accredited by ICBOC for a total of 29.5 hours. New and renewing ICBOC applicants attending training sessions during this conference will be able to apply the hours towards their certification or re-certification.

ICBOC is Canada’s nationally designated body responsible for certifying addictions and wellness specialists serving First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities. The organisation represents a major historical turning point in establishing the official recognition of the special qualifications needed to work as an addictions/wellness practitioner in Aboriginal communities.
